How to Report Streetlight Outages and Other Electrical Issues

Westlake Municipal Utility District No. 1 (the "District") does not own, operate, or maintain the streetlights, power lines, or other electric facilities located within the District. Those facilities belong to CenterPoint Energy. If you notice a streetlight outage or other electrical issue in your neighborhood, please report it directly to CenterPoint Energy.

Streetlight Outages

Residents can report streetlights that are out, flickering, damaged, or operating improperly using CenterPoint's interactive reporting map:

Report a Streetlight Outage Online

Simply search by address or streetlight number, select the affected light, and submit your report. Each streetlight pole has an identification number, typically located on the front of the pole facing the street. If the pole number is missing or unreadable, you can use the interactive map to pinpoint the exact streetlight location and submit your report.

Downed Power Lines

If you see a downed power line, assume it is energized. Stay at least 35 feet away, keep others away, and call 911 and CenterPoint Energy at 713-207-2222. Do not touch the line, attempt to move it, or touch anything that is in contact with it, including a vehicle, fence, or standing water.

Do not attempt to report a downed power line online.

Tree Trimming Requests

If you believe tree branches are interfering with overhead power lines, you can submit a request through CenterPoint's tree trimming program. Please note that CenterPoint trims trees impacting primary high-voltage lines and does not trim service lines running directly to individual homes.

General Power Outages

Residents can view current outages and restoration updates using CenterPoint's outage tracker and sign up for text alerts to receive automatic outage notifications. Outages may also be reported by telephone at 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143.

Remember to Call 811 Before You Dig

Planning a landscaping project, fence installation, or other excavation work? Always contact 811 at least two business days before digging to have underground utility lines located and marked. This free service helps prevent damage to underground infrastructure and keeps everyone safe.
