Toilet paper alternatives such as “flushable wipes”, wet wipes, sanitary napkins, and/or paper towels cannot be flushed down the toilet safely. Wet wipes flushed down toilets contribute to many sewer blockages in Westlake MUD 1.
Wet wipes or flushable wipes, that claim “safe for flushing” can still cause serious damage to your home’s plumbing. Flushing wipes down the toilet might not be an immediate issue, however, the problem can arise later when the wipes move through the sewer system. These wipes don’t dissolve and clump together causing pipe clogs.
Should the wipes make it to the sewage treatment plant, the facilities can be overworked trying to process that solid waste that does not breakdown. The result of flushing these products could mean major wastewater treatment issues for your individual home and Westlake MUD 1. By flushing any products other than toilet paper, we can not only create inconveniences in services but also incur very costly repairs.
Please take the time to dispose of these products properly in a waste receptacle in your home.
