According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA), “Household leaks can waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water annually nationwide”. In an effort to further water conservation, each spring the EPA promotes “Fix a Leak Week”, an educational campaign focused on raising awareness on water loss due to undetected household leaks and promoting water conservation in the home. This year, Fix a Leak Week will be March 15 – 21, 2021.
WaterSense is a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the EPA. This label helps identify water-efficient products as well as resources for water conservation. For more information and education focused on water conservation, visit their website at https://www.epa.gov/watersense
Fix a Leak Week is a great time to learn more about how District residents can save money and water. “Learn how to find and fix leaks during Fix a Leak Week. It’s as easy as 1-2-3.” In participation of this campaign, Houston Public Works, Dallas Water Utilities, and Fort Worth Water are hosting a two-part virtual DIY event focused on “providing comprehensive information about repairing simple water leaks inside and outside the home”.
